Take your channel back

Do these five steps in order. Each link opens Google's or YouTube's own page; the address is shown next to it, so check it before you type a password. Standing Brief never asks for your password.

   Sign out every device

   In your Google account's device list, sign out of every device you don't recognise. This throws the attacker out of Google, and so out of YouTube.

   Can't sign in? The attacker may have changed your password. Use Google's account recovery (support.google.com) from a device and place you've signed in from before.

   Change your password

   Pick one you've never used anywhere else, and keep it in a password manager. Changing it also signs out most other sessions.

   Check your recovery info and 2-Step Verification

   Attackers add their own phone or email so they can come back. Make sure the recovery phone and email are yours and remove any you don't know. Then turn on 2-Step Verification, ideally with a passkey or an authenticator app.

   Report it to YouTube, with the log

   YouTube's hacked-channel help walks you through getting the channel back and undoing the attacker's changes. Paste the log below into your report: it shows what changed and when.

   Clean up

   Once you're back in:

   • In YouTube Studio (studio.youtube.com), Settings → Permissions: remove anyone you don't know.
   • In Google's list of connected apps (myaccount.google.com): remove any app you don't know.
   • In Gmail's filters and forwarding (mail.google.com): delete rules you didn't make. Attackers use them to hide YouTube's emails.
   • Put back your name, picture, links and video privacy, and delete anything the attacker posted. The log shows what they changed.
   • On each change in This week, answer "No, it wasn't me", so your record says so.

Standing Brief can only read your channel: it can't change or undo anything on it, and neither can anyone who breaks into Standing Brief.
